The plot of the film is a liberal reconstruction of medieval poetry. In general, the plot of the film depicts the main character as a weak and imperfect figure rather than a brave knight. The film begins with Gawain sitting on a throne disguised as a king and a crown descending on him. And then he wakes up on Christmas morning in a brothel with his girlfriend Essel. He goes to Camelot, where he talks to his mother. Her mother refuses to go to her Uncle King's for Christmas dinner. At dinner, the king invites Gawain to sit with him and his queen.
At the same time, Gawain's mother is conducting a magical ritual in the tower. At the same time, the celebration of the guests of the Round Table is interrupted by the appearance of the Green Knight. He challenges the king: any knight who can harm him will receive an axe as a trophy, but in a year and one day he will come to the chapel and promise to receive the same retribution. Summoned to battle, the king gives him a sword. However, instead of fighting, the Green Knight gives Gawain an axe himself and allows himself to be beheaded. However, after a few seconds, the Green Knight gets up and takes the severed head, leaves and leaves the hero in thought.
